A Toast To The Year - My Winter Story Post

A homemade wreath for our new front door

All I could manage with a tiny bit of time at work!

Wishing all of my loyal followers the most joyous tidings for an abundant year ahead and a toast to what has certainly been an eventful one……this long overdue post is an opportunity to reflect on the past year as a way to remember so many positive opportunities for my work - so far it has been the most fruitful and for that I am so so grateful….

I have decided to try out quarterly ‘Story Posts’ taking cue from the changing seasons….so read on for this, my Winter Story.

Gathering greenery for the house at Christmastime is a firm favourite - here I am readying eucalyptus stems in my homemade press to use throughout the year…..

Framed works for the new Edinburgh Cancer Centre

Now part of the permanent collection for NHS Lothian

‘Gossamer 2’ - unique screenprint

This time last year I was still recovering from a nasty bout of covid and whilst I was feeling sorry for myself, I was approached by ‘Tonic Arts’ who assist with managing the NHS Lothian Art Collection, to include my work in a proposal for the newly refurbished ground floor of Edinburgh Cancer Centre at the Western General Hospital.

I was delighted and humbled to discover that the staff who work at the centre chose 3 of my prints to enhance areas in the hospital environment. This was a particularly poignant moment for me and a way to poetically mark the end of one year and a new beginning.

First Joint Exhibition…

At the same time I was asked to be part of a joint exhibition at the ‘Upright Gallery’ in Bruntsfield for April 2024, so it was all hands on deck to create a new body of work and get it all ready in time. I was only able to screen-print on Thursday evenings and Saturdays, so it was pretty full on, yet it came together and was a wonderful experience alongside the beautiful ceramics of local maker Hazel Frost.

‘Hover’ - unique screen-print on display at Charing Cross Hospital

In September, Assistant Curator for the Imperial Health Charity, got in touch about a project with the nursing team at Charing Cross Hospital. They were hoping to acquire some of my works for the training rooms at the nurses station. I was thrilled and honoured that the team chose 4 of my screen prints, all unique works to become part of their permanent collection of over 3,000 objects, ‘Hover’ above is one of the prints now on display.

Installing ‘Ethereal 02’ in one of the hotel suites

new ‘pine trees’ hotel in pitlochry

An art consultancy approached me about sourcing artworks for a new hotel in Pitlochry in Perthshire. As the hotel is nestled in the landscape, inviting you to explore and rediscover your connection with nature, my subtle prints using delicate layers of leaf shapes and stems seemed to echo the ethos of the hotel. I am still chuffed to bits that visitors and staff alike will be looking at my works everyday……and….I really fancy a stay there!

We literally went from the darkness into the light….basement to top floor!

Somewhere, somehow squeezed into all of this we managed to move house again….from landing in Edinburgh over two years ago, we managed to buy and renovate a lovely top floor apartment…..we didn’t manage to get it fully functioning beforehand and just needed to get in…..so it has been quite an upheaval and lots and lots of learning…..here is Luna enjoying a shaft of glorious sunlight…
